
The Central Statistics Department has decided to conduct the census in the India occupied territory Lipulek and Kalapani through a physical presence there.
Dundi Raj Lamichhane, head of the Statistics Section, said that the government has started the national census programme by reaching the doorsteps of all Nepalis by November 25, reports Gorkhapatra daily.
The department will reach the doorsteps of around 1,000 people from 320 families of Gunji, Kuti and Nabhi villages of Byas Village Municipality-1, Lamichhane said. The Department estimates that there are 700 people in the area, up from 700 in the previous statistics.
He said that despite rumours that Kalapani and Lipulek as controversial territory, the Department has not taken the issue seriously and if there will be a problem, it will tackle the issue through diplomatic initiatives or by adopting alternative methods.
The Department has trained and sent 8,000 supervisors to the field since September 12. The Department has made a schedule to complete the first phase of house listing by 4 October.
