Narayan Khadka becomes foreign minister
Kathmandu, 22 September: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has appointed NC leader Narayan Khadka as the Foreign Minister today.
At a time when Deuba is facing non-cooperation from the partners in the alliance government in expanding his cabinet, he has assigned Khadka with the purpose of Nepal taking part at the UN General Assembly.
Presently, Nepal is the chair of the SAARC regional body and Nepal’s presence is important at the UN General Assembly. As there is a deadlock on SAARC activities due to the dispute between India and Pakistan sideline talks with SAARC member countries and also SAARC observer countries coinciding with the UN General Assembly.
Khadka is known to be an NC leader closed to the Western and Indian camps.
Khadka took the oath of office from President Bidya Devi Bhandari immediately after his assignment today. Khadka is flying to New York this evening leading the Nepali delegation to the UN.
