Kathmandu,6 September: A single bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana, due to time constraint could not hear the writ petition filed by former prime minister Khadga Oli against the Speaker of the House of Representatives Agni Sapkota and the Election Commission (EC) on Sunday.
The writ petition was filed arguing that the registration of the CPN (Unified Socialist) is illegal. On August 17, Oli had sent a letter to the Parliament Secretariat seeking action against 14 lawmakers, including Unified Socialist Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal. Speaker Sapkota did not register it in the Parliament Secretariat. The UML demanded action against Speaker, arguing that he did not implement the action the party took against 14 lawmakers. It sought the mandamus order. The writ petition states that the registration of the new party- CPN (Unified Socialist) with the signatures of those expelled lawmakers was against the law of the land. Oli has demanded the cancellation of CPN (Unified Socialist).
