By Our Reporter   Floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall have affected normal life across the country, especially in the Terai and the central mountainous regions. Several settlements from Dhanusha in Province 2 to Kailali in Sudurpaschin in the Terai were submerged in floodwaters, with West Nawalparasi suffering the maximum brunt. Vehicular movements came to a grinding halt in the mountains as major highways were blocked by the landslides. Many of the roads are yet to be opened. Floods and landslides killed people in Darchula, Tanahun, Palapa and Nawalparasi districts while several settlements in Tarai from Dhanusha in the east to Kaillai in the west submerged. Landslides in Butwal put several houses at risk. The flood also swept away diversions constructed in different areas of Gaindakot Municipality in Nawalparasi (East), thereby obstructing the highway. Flooding in Mohana, Patharaiya, Kaandha, Kandra, Shivaganga, and Kataini among others have inundated various regions of Kailali district. The rainfall had affected many places in Rupandehi including Lumbini, Marchawar, in the southern area of the district.
