Kathmandu has again had an ugly look as the Kathmandu Metropolitan City failed to collect and manage the garbage from the city.
Big piles of garbage on the roadside and the banks of the rivers have not only given an ugly look to the city but thrown stench to the people living in the city.
As the road to the Sisodol landfill site got deteriorated because of the regular rains, trucks are unable to reach the landfill, resulting in the present situation. However, the problem of garbage in Kathmandu is not a new one. It occurs frequently because of the inability of the government and KMC to find a permanent solution to the problem.
Even Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba the other day summoned the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the KMC and instructed them to solve the problem at the earliest. PM Deuba also instructed the director-general of the Roads Department to repair the damaged road to the Sisodal landfill.
After the instruction from the PM, the KMC said it would start collecting the city waste from Wednesday. However, it will take at least one week to collect all the garbage accumulated on the roadside even if the garbage collection begins in time.
