It has been 66 years since Nepal and China established diplomatic relations. On 1 August 1955, leaders from both the countries had formally established diplomatic relations between the two nations, although, both the countries enjoy centuries-old people to people relations.
After the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two nations, China has made a remarkable contribution to Nepal’s development, especially in the field of infrastructural development, cooperation in areas such as economy, social, culture, among others.
Although Nepal’s foreign policy at present is in chaos, the historical visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2019 is an indication that Nepal is an important neighbour for China.
Chinese President Xi, during his visit to Nepal, had stressed strategic partnership for the welfare, common interests and prosperous future of the people from both countries.
Nepali leaders should not miss the opportunity for transforming Nepal into a prosperous nation through the strategic partnership with China.
Dr Upendra Gautam, General Secretary, China Study Center, has remarked that 1 August is a great day for both Nepali and Chinese people.
"We are thankful to the leadership of both Nepal and China for formally establishing the diplomatic relations between the two countries", said Gautam.
"It was done in times that were of active Cold War and some countries were adversely against Nepal's independent status", Gautam recalled the strategic significance of the establishment of the diplomatic relations with our northern neighbour.
Gautam also informed that 1 August is also the day when CPC had established the People's Liberation Army in 1927. PLA is a major force in the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Moreover, on the occasion of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Nepal and China, Sundarnath Bhattarai, acting chairman, China Study Center, has extended congratulations to the Communist Party of China (CPC) and also the government and the people of China.
Bhattarai, in his congratulatory message, has wished for further progress and prosperity of China and its people, and every success of China in achieving its rejuvenation and second centennial mid-century goals.
