Kathmandu, 21 November: Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, chairman, National Assembly, inaugurated a week-long photo exhibition on Yunnan, China amidst a function in Kathmandu yesterday.
The launching ceremony was inaugurated via a zoom conference from Kathmandu and Kunming jointly.
Timilsina, in his inaugural address, said that Nepal and China enjoy excellent friendly relations.
He said that Nepal’s stance on the one-China policy will never be changed.
Timilsina said that organization of the photo exhibition in Kathmandu amidst coronavirus pandemic is an example of closeness between the two neighbours.
Yogesh Bhattarai, minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, and Culture, who was the special guest at the function, recalled those historical personalities who had contributed in enhancing Nepal-China relations.
He also recalled the visits of President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to China and Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Nepal and important agreements, including Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), signed during the visits.
He stressed on strengthening economic partnership through BRI
Bhattarai also lauded the cultural heritage of the Yunnan Province and cited special relations between Yunan Province of China and Nepal having two flights a day.
Bhattarai recalled senior Nepali leaders’ participation in the China-South Asia Expo being organised in Kunming every year.
Zhao Jin, member of the Standing Committee of the Yunnan Provincial CPC Committee and Minister of the propaganda Department addressed the event through a zoom conference.
Qi Jianxin, governor of Diqing Prefecture had introduced the Shangri-La via video and sent warm wishes to everyone. Diqing County external scene reporter had shown the daily happy life of Tibetan compatriots through Tibetan family visits.
Nepal-China Media Forum chairman Kishor Shrestha remarked that this year marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China.
On the occasion, the heads of state of the two countries exchanged congratulatory telegrams and put forward suggestions and expectations for further consolidating and developing Sino-Nepalese friendship and comprehensively enhancing the strategic cooperative partnership.
Shrestha said, our effort is to strengthen bilateral relations for the best of both the countries and people.
The Himalayas, which lie across central Asia, closely connects Nepal with Yunnan. Yunnan, which is working to build a “radiation centre for South Asia and Southeast Asia”, will shake hands with Nepal over the Himalayas through this cultural exchange event, Shrestha said.
Nepal-China Media Forum in Kathmandu, under the guidance of the Information Office of the State Council, sponsored by the Propaganda Department of the Yunnan Provincial CPC Committee, the Propaganda Department of the Diqing State Committee, Nepal-China Media Forum, co-organized by China Tibet Bookstore and hosted by the Yunnan Branch of the China News Agency, the cultural exchange “Amazing Yunnan: Shangri-La Cultural Exchange Launching Ceremony, Nepal” has been held in Kathmandu.
The exhibition will continue for a week at The Everest Hotel in Kathmandu. Outstanding photographic works are being displayed in the exhibition. Nepali visitors can experience the beauty of Shangri-La of the Yunnan Province.
