Kathmandu, 18 November: President Bidhya Devi Bhandari and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi are reported to have played key role in averting the imminent split of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP).

The Chairman and the Prime Minister of the ruling party Khadga Oli having met with the Chinese envoy last night and the President this morning took a U-turn and agreed to take part in the Secretariat meeting. The NCP is again facing a grave crisis with another Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal claiming that Oli has proposed to split the party despite the fact that Oli is in minority in Parliamentary Party, Secretariat, Standing Committee and Central Committee.

Earlier, Oli remained adamant to his stance of not participating in the Secretariat meeting as well as not responding to Dahal’s 19-point political document. He had maintained the bottom line to attend the Secretariat meeting only after Dahal withdraw the proposal. Also, Oli had threatened of ‘big action’ against Dahal’s move.

Meanwhile, during a meeting with Dahal President Bhandari has offered the posts of Prime Minister after a year and single chairman of the party after the next General Convention. President Bhandari offered Dahal to sign an agreement with Oli and guaranteed him of the post and assured him that she would convince Oli to implement the agreement, according to media reports.
