Kathmandu, 24 October: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, in his Dasain message on 23 October, has claimed that the government has not stepped back from free medical treatment for the Covid-19 infected people. However, he has added that only those, who declare themselves unable to pay for the treatment, will get free medical treatment.

The fact is that all the government hospitals have placed the charge for a lab test, bed charge and other charges. Without depositing the minimum amount at the cash counter, the hospital will not start treatment to a patient.

Also, to declare the patient that he is not able to pay for the treatment, he needs to produce a recommendation letter from the Ward Committee, which is a lengthy process. The government priority is to provide immediate treatment but a patient is needed to roam around different offices to get a certificate for free treatment, which is a lengthy process.

In fact, those patients, who were able to afford the medical charge, were going to the private hospital and those who were unable to pay, they were going to the government hospital.

People don’t want to stay on a long queue for hours just for a PCR test if they were able to pay for the test.

PM Oli, hiding this reality, has made a big lie.
