The Bir Hospital has stopped the operation of the oxygen plant due to lack of 2.5 million rupees for maintenance of the plant. The government is unable to manage the fund. There are no beds in hospitals for treatment of the Covid-19 infected patients. There is a scarcity of ventilator and ICU in hospitals.
Many people have become jobless and many people are dying due to the hunger due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, the ministers, MPs in the Federal Parliament, members of the Province Council have taken Dasain allowance from the government coffer.
There is no provision to distribute Dasain allowance to the MPs and Province Council members. However, they enjoyed the allowance illegally.
Narayankaji Shrestha, the spokesman of the Nepal Communist Party, is an exception that he denied to take the Dasain allowance. He has not taken his salary since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the nation.
Likewise, the Province No 1 and Lumbini Province have denied distributing the Dasain allowance to the political authorities. Otherwise, the political authorities, without shame, have enjoyed the Dasain allowance. They have even forgotten to demonstrate humanitarian compassion on the plight of the people.
Of course, this is the era of loottantra!
Nothing more than a drama
After strong criticism in social networks, one after another MPs have started to announce rejection of the Dasain allowance. Some of them have asked the government to use this year’s Dasain allowance on the treatment of Covid-19 patients. Surprisingly, why aren’t they asking their concerned party to take such a decision from the party? Why aren’t the political parties deciding to cut-down 50 per cent of the salaries received by the political leaders in different elected authorities and use the amount for the treatment of the Covid-19 patients? Why are not they putting pressure on the government to immediately cut down unnecessary expenditure, including the appointment of a huge number of the advisors by different political authorities? Instead of taking such a decision, the leaders are trying to become a hero by discarding the Dasain allowance! This is just a drama they are staging.
Belated, after a massive criticism from media and social networks, the Nepali Congress has asked its MPs to refund the Dasain allowance. Thanks to the media and social networks!
Why should we pay tax then?
The government has surrendered saying that it cannot provide free treatment and free medicines to the Covid-19 pandemic at a time when the infection rate has reached the optimum level.
When the government cannot provide free medical service, education, employment, why should we pay tax to the government?
We know, the taxpayers’ amount has been massively misused by those political leaders in power. Even knowing this fact, is it justifiable to pay tax to the government?
