Kathmandu, 19 October: The government has stepped back from the free treatment of Covid-19 patients. Now, the Covid-19 patients have to pay for treatment and purchase medicines by themselves, informed the Health and Population Ministry on Sunday.
Earlier, the government was providing free treatment along with free medicine to Covid-19 patients.
Dr Jageshwor Gautam, spokesman, Health Ministry, informed that the government will bear only the cost of treatment and PCR testing of frontline workers including differently-abled, single women, senior citizens, security personnel, and sanitization workers.
The government decision has violated the recent Supreme Court verdict for free treatment and free PCR test of the general public.
Also, the government has violated the fundamental rights of the citizens guaranteed by the constitution.
