Amidst the growing cases of COVID-19, the fifth Constitution Day was marked last Saturday (Sept.19) by organising an event at the Army Pavilion. President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Speaker Agni Sapkota and chiefs of the security forces among others attended the function.

Prime Minister Oli delivered a lengthy speech highlighting the achievements of the government. But a queue of hungry people waiting for food just 500 metres behind the Army Pavilion at the Open Theatre was a perfect mocking of the tall talks of the Prime Minister. This was a case to show how the government which has totally failed to provide relief to the needy people amidst the coronavirus, was busy blowing its own trumpets. Moreover, the police were seen disturbing the distribution of food the hungry people in the name of providing security to the VVIPs. The media, both online and print, spilled the scenes.

Had the government spent the money to feed the hungry people instead of organising the celebrations amid the COVID-19, it would have sent a positive message to the mass.
