The government, at a time when the economy is badly suffering from the Covid-19 pandemic and the government has defeat to fight against the pandemic, has spent 100 million rupees to distribute awards, especially to its sycophants.
Except for some exceptions, the government has awarded those people who have apprised it, those people closed to the power and mostly those people working in the Home Ministry have been decorated with the award!
This could be an example of good governance and transparency!
Kulman Ghishing
Kulman Ghishing, managing director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, has been retired from the office after completing the full tenure of four years.
There is a strong pressure from the commoners to re-appoint him at the same post. Every day, angry youths are organizing demonstrations in Kathmandu and other parts of the country demanding re-appointment of Ghishing.
In four years in office, Ghishing did two things – managed electricity supply and ended load-shedding in the country and managed to bring the NEA as a profit earning government undertaking by ending billions of rupees worth loss every year that the NEA was facing. These are the big achievements and everybody commends Ghishing’s contribution to the nation.
At a time, when almost all government undertakings are facing loss and they have become an economic burden for the government, Ghishing’s job can be a miracle.
The general public is afraid of again experiencing load-shedding for 12 to 14 hours a day after quitting of Ghishing from NEA. This is the main reason that spontaneous crowd has been witnessed in support of Ghishing.
Ghishing was able to destroy the setting of corrupt people, brokers and commission agents who were enjoying commission by imposing load-shedding. But the government didn’t wish to assign him again despite the public demand. How the government is responding to the public voice, it is clear to understand.
Piyush Goyal’s claim
Indian railway minister seems naïve on the deal between the Nepal and Indian governments to procure two railway sets from India at the government to government (G to G) level. He said that India gifted two sets of trains to Nepal. Odd to note, the Nepal government didn’t wish to condemn such a false claim by a responsible Indian minister!
Rule of law in Nepal
Madhav Nepal, a senior leader of the Nepal Communist Party is always lauding for rule of law. The contradiction is that he had backed Bamdev Gautam to put pressure on PM KP Sharma Oli for nominating him to the post of the National Assembly member. Now, he is putting pressure to Oli to assign Gautam as the minister!
There are many capable leaders in the NCP but Oli didn’t see any other else than Yubraj Khatiwada to the post of the finance minister. When Khatiwada quit the post, the next day, Oli nominated him as his chief financial advisor, to work as a de facto finance minister! Khatiwada, on the other hand, doesn’t see any hierarchy. He wants to get the post, whatever that will be! He became the governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank after he completed the tenure as the vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission. The governor’s post is junior to the vice-chairman of the NPC. Again, he wished to become the advisor to the PM by quitting the post of the finance minister! Question on his morale!
KP Oli, the prime minister, rejected Kulman Ghishing’s re-appointment despite the general public’s aspirations. Rejection of Ghishing’s re-appointment has given the message that Oli is reluctant to reward those who are doing good work for the nation. He also needs bad and corrupt people, although, he is not tired from claiming zero-tolerance against corruption!
