The government has finally decided to recommend vice-chairman of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Bam Dev Gautam to nominate as a member of the National Assembly (NA). Gautam has been out of the parliament after he lost 2017 elections from Bardiya, and he caused a much stir in the ruling Nepal Communist Party to reach the House in an immoral way. Rejected by people, he should not have hurried to become a nominated MP.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers held at the official residence of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in Baluwatar decided to forward Gautam’s name o the Office of the President for his nomination to the vacant seat of the National Assembly.

A seat in the Upper House has remained vacant after the term of former Finance Minister Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada expired on March 3 this year. The same meeting also decided to appointed former Minister for Finance, Communication and Information Technology Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada as a special economic advisor to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli with minister-level services and facilities.

Prime Minister Oli intends to keep the portfolio of the Finance Ministry with him, and Dr Khatiwada will act as de-facto finance minister in the capacity of the PM’s advisor. The Cabinet meeting decided to resume the inter-district transport services of the public vehicles and domestic flights from September Thursday.
