Kathmandu, 20 May: China has said that any unilateral action in Kalapani may complicate the situation. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijin, at a daily briefing on 19 May in Beijing, remarked, “The issue of Kalapani is between Nepal and India. We hope the two countries will resolve their differences properly through friendly consultations and refrain from taking any unilateral action that may complicate the situation”. Meanwhile, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, addressing the Parliament on 19 May, had said that the Nepal government representative had informed about the situation to the officials in the Chinese Foreign Ministry about the situation in Kalapani. Oli had informed the Parliament that the Chinese officials had said that the India-China agreement was about expanding an old trade route for pilgrimage purposes only and it won’t affect the position of the tri-juncture and issue of borders. Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary Shankar Bairagi had held a meeting with Chinese ambassador Hou Yanqui regarding present situation in the tri-junction border point and Nepal’s position.
