School level curricula of all subjects are going to be revised from next academic session as the government has come up with new curriculum format. The Curriculum Development Center (CDC) under the Ministry of Education Science and Technology has prepared a format of curriculum of all classes.
In first phase, the new curriculum will be introduced in grade 1 and grade 11 in the coming academic session 077-78. The new curricula will be implemented in three phases in all classes by 2080 BS.
However, the government has removed mathematics as compulsory subjects in grade 11 and 12 even in science stream, which has drawn criticism.
This new curriculum seems flexible in interdisciplinary and institution transfer. As per the provision, students enrolled in one stream in grade 11 could easily change another in grade 12 and students also have right to change institutions every year if they want.
According to new curriculum, students have to learn at least six subjects in both grade eleven and twelve. Now, the curriculum has only five subjects in each grade. Out of six, three subjects are compulsory and three are optional. In grade 11, English, Nepali and Social Study subjects are compulsory and in grade 12 English, Nepali and Life Skill subjects are compulsory.
Meanwhile, concerned stakeholders of Mathematics have condemned the government decision to remove Mathematics from compulsory subject in grade eleven and twelve.
Organizing a press conference Monday, stakeholders demanded to make mathematics as compulsory subject as earlier.
Mathematics has to be included as compulsory even in new curriculum format because mathematics is a science of science, stakeholders stressed.
