Kathmandu, 20 January: The deadline set for payment against sugarcane supply to the farmers by the sugar mills is going to expire by 21 January, yet, many farmers are to receive payment. On 3 January, the government had inked an agreement with the farmers in agitation to clear all the dues from the sugar mills. As the government failed to take serious action against the sugar mills owners, even after the deadline, sugarcane farmers are unable to get payment, reports Rajdhani daily. The government was compelled to ink the agreement with the farmers after farmers launched agitation in Kathmandu. Farmers are yet to receive above 591 million rupees from different sugar mills. According to a report, out of 14 mills, seven mills have paid past dues to the farmers. Mahalaxmi Sugar Mill in Sarlahai, Annapurna sugar Mill in Sarlahai, Sriram Sugar Mill in Rautahat, Mahakali Sugar Mill in Kanchanpur, Bagmati Khandsari Sugar Mill in Nawalparashi, Reliance Sugar Mill in Sripur, Bara, Baba Bijnath Sugar Mill in Rautahat are among the mills which have not paid farmers’ dues.
