The ruling Nepal Communist Party has agreed to name State 3 as Bagmati with Hetauda its capital.
A meeting of the party secretariat reached an agremment to name the State and capital although naming the State was not the job of a political party. According to the Constitution, State Assembly should give name and decide the capital of the State.
Chief Minister of State 3 Dormani Paudel said the upcoming session of the State Assembly would make a formal decision on the name through a vote.
Due to conflicting positions of provincial assembly members of the NCP, which commands majority in the provincial assembly, the party has not been able to name the province and fix its capital.
Bhaktapur, Kathmandu and Banepa have been proposed as the prospective provincial capitals.
States 1, 2, 3 and 5 have been struggling to finalise their names and capitals. State 4 has been named Gandaki, State 6 Karnali and State 7 Sudur Paschim, and their capitals are Pokhara, Surkhet and Dhangadhi respectively.
