Kathmandu, 28 December: Sugarcane farmers in Sararlahi district arrived in Kathmandu to put pressure to the sugar industry to clear farmers’ dues have stage sit-in protest at Maitidevi Mandala in Kathmandu as the industries denied to clear their dues.
Annapurna and Mahalaxmi Sugar Mills in Sarlahi have denied to clear farmers’ dues, which has compelled the farmers to stage sit-in protest.
Farmers have warned to shut down those industries which have not clear farmers’ dues.
20 thousand sugarcane farmers from Sarlahi are yet to receive 500 million rupees from Annapurna and 210 million rupees from Mahalaxmi according to Harishyam Raya, secretary of the sugarcane farmers’ struggle committee.
Annapurna has not cleared dues for last six years whereas Mahalaxmi has not clear dues for last one year.
The communist government has not taken any effective actions against the industrialists who are not paying sugarcane price for years.
