Kathmandu, 22 December : The leaders of Nepal Communist Party, instead of actively participating in discussion in the ongoing Standing Committee Meeting (SCM), have secretly joined a luncheon hosted by President Bidya Devi Bhandari, sparking fury and uproar in the party.
Naya Patrika daily, in its today's edition, on the front page has published a very brief conversation between standing committee members Bhim Rawal and Pradeep Gywali, which indicates that there is deep division in the ruling NCP and especially within the erstwhile CPN-UML. Gywali bluntly answers Rawal thus : Can't we visit the President ? How dare you question about the most respected institution?
Rawal defending himself has argued: If President Bhadari wants to enter into politics, she must clearly state her intention. The President isn't above the Constitution of Nepal that we can't raise question about the President's activities.
While the SCM was in progress on Saturday, the Principal Political Adviser to Prime Minister Bishnu Rimal, Minister for Foreign Affairs Preadeep Gyawali, Chief Minister of State 5 Ishwaor Pokhrel, Minister for Finance Youbarj Khatiwada, former Minister for Finance Surender Pandey, Minister for Forest and Environment Shakti Basnet, Agriculture Minister Ghanshyam Bhusal, Minsiter for Water Resources and Energy Barsha Man Pun, Chief Whip of NCP Dev Gurung, former Home Minister Janardan Sharma and leader Devendra Poudel had joined the President in satisfying her political queries and developments taken place during the week-long SCM.
Party President Pushpakamal Dahal too has expressed his disappointment over such activities of the party leaders and keeping him in darkness about the matter.
