Kathmandu, 22 December: The ongoing standing committee meeting of the Nepal Communist Party (NC) has prolonged as one section of the members have opposed the American grant project under the Millennium Challenge Corporation. Standing committee members Dev Gurung, Bhim Rawal, among others, have claimed that MCC is the US project under the Indo-Pacific Strategy, an American military alliance against China. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is in favour of endorsing the MCC project, whereas, executive chairman of the NCP, Pushpakamal Dahal is confused on the issue of accepting the project. Dahal has remarked that Nepal should accept the project only after being confirmed that MCC project is not under the IPS. Main opposition party Nepali Congress is in hurry to endorse the project as soon as possible. NC has decided to disturb the Federal Parliament sessions if delayed to endorse MCC from the Parliament. The US government has allotted 500 million US $ for different infrastructure development projects. Observers believe that MCC is the American strategy to influence the Nepal government for accepting the American conditions specially on security, governance and economic sector.
