Export sector management is termed as planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and coordinating the resources and; procedures by which needs and demands for export sector and export environment are fulfilled by the provision of specific services to consumers, organization, and export communities.
Export promotion is basis to national progress. Nothing could be greater significant than the situation of export in terms of socio-economicdevelopment. In spite of this fact, the people living in the developing and least developed countries and all stakeholders have little or no access to export market. This state of hoplessness and frustration among the export stakeholders is not because of lack of professional knowledge or competence but due to poor management of export sector.
Management can provide the means whereby the most effective use can be made of the knowledge and skills of the personnel responsible for export sector development. The benefits of modern ICT can reach the stakeholders only if such ICTs with export management are properly planned and implemented by professional export sector experts.
Export is the business like other businesses, it needs good management to keep it running smoothly. Future export managers must be prepared to deal with evolving integrated export sector system, and its environment.
In general, export sector management includes management of export related organizations. There are higher education degrees including Ph.D program in business management, and international business management. The export sector industry is a broad and varied field offering many opportunities for well prepared managers. Successful managers in this sector display excellent managerial knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Export and business sector management education programme supplement general management academic preparation with courses tailored to the special environment and requirements of the export sector management. Export sector management students take courses in export finance, export policy, politics, planning, export marketing, trade economics, trade law, and international business, among others. Students in international business management programmes are exposed to the variety of export organizational settings in which export sector and business managers work, including SPS and TBT lab and requirements, government agencies, export supply manufacturers or distributors. Strong business skills balanced with a strong sense of personal integrity and empathy are also important to success in a career in export sector management.
In addition to general management skills and knowledge of export and business sector, students in this specialization should learn analytical problem solving and decision making, how to interact with professionals in various field of endeavor as well as personal professionalism. Students are exposed to practical and job environment, export sector professionalism and export system and process.
World is changing rapidly. There is a lot of advancement in export education. Export sector organization is also changing rapidly; so health sector organization becomes a complex organization. It is difficult to manage the export sector organization by export practitioners due to lack of time and managerial knowledge. Therefore a special course should be designed and managedfor managing export sector organization i. e, export sector management.
Getting an education in export sector management prepares us to enter the challenging export sector activities. Export sector executives have the opportunities to make a significant contribution to improve the conditions of export man in the export communities they serve. Careers option for export sector managers have never been more diverse or more exciting for example in the provider segment, managers are in leaderships roles in government agencies and private sector in export sector. Graduates are offered positions in the export suppliers segment for companies that make exportable items companies and export consulting firms. They may work for government departments and agencies, private foundations, and INGOs.
This kind of entry level job is offered varies in terms of graduate’s interests, skill and experience. Upon graduation, export managers select either line management positions with staff supervision responsibilities such as director of sales.
Export sector managers held numerous in Nepal. Many persons are involved in export trading activities in different companies. To make effective decisions, they need to be open to different opinions and good at analyzing export sector. They must understand capital, finance, and information systems, and also to interpret export matters and information. Motivating others to implement their decisions requires strong leadership abilities. Tact diplomacy, flexibility, and communication skills are essential because export sector managers spend most of their time interacting with others.
Employment of export sector managers is expected to grow less than the other occupations. Opportunities for export sector managers will be closely related to growth in the export sector in which they are employed. Opportunities will be good in export-oriented industry and sector. Many services previously provided in this sector will continue to change this sector. Demand in export practices management will grow as this sector group practices become larger and more complex. Export sector managers will need to deal with the pressure of cost containment and financial accountability, as well as with increased focus on export awareness.
Export sector managers also will be employed by export awareness management companies who provide management services to Export companies and other organizations, as well as specific Departments such as Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection, NBSM, Department of Food Technologyand Quality Control (DFTQC), Department of Customs, and Trade and Export Promotion Centre.
General administrative people are neither educated nor trained in export sector management. They are trained in general management which is totally different from export sector. In export sector, even delay of one minute in decision making leads to decrease in export trade. Export sector organizations are complicated and complex. There are various highly skilled professionals, like export managers, marketing managers, and other export sectoral experts. It is very difficult to coordinate export sector by general administrative person.
This is the age of specialization where in every field there is the need for well trained and knowledgeable person. Similarly, export sector is not an exception where there is urgent need for well trained and skilled export sector managers. We can claim that professional export sector managers if get a chance to work in export sectors, in mere future they will definitely enhance the export organizations and export sector in Nepal.
