Within the light of 60 years of the Swiss Development Cooperation in Nepal, ambassador Manuel Sager, Director General of SDC, concluded his five day visit to Nepal from 18 to 22 March, together with Dr. Derek Müller, Head of South Asia Division, SDC.
During his visit, ambassador Sager held high-level meetings with the Nepalese authorities, including Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada, Minister of Finance and Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Shanker Das Bairagi. He also met with representatives of international development partners. In addition, Ambassador Sager visited Swiss funded projects in and around Ramechhap district.
The Swiss Cooperation Strategy for Nepal 2018-2021 foresees total disbursements in Nepal of approximately USD 130 million (equivalent to NPR. 14.7 billion) for four years and emphasises on inclusive federal state building, promote employment and income, and contribute to safety of Nepali migrant workers. Gender Equity and Social Inclusion, and Disaster Risk Reduction are included in Swiss programme portfolio in a cross-cutting manner and focuses its interventions mainly at the state and local levels, fostering in particular the socio-economic development of women and members of disadvantaged population groups, and building sustainable and inclusive institutions.
