The government of Nepal has started issuing multiple entry visas for the American nationals to reciprocate the US practice granting similar visa to Nepalis.
Prior to this, the Americans visiting Nepal were given tourist visas for 15 days, 30 days and 90 days.
The provision of providing five-year multiple visa was implemented by the DoI since January 1, 2019 after the cabinet meeting held on December 28, 2018 took a decision to this effect.
As per the new rule, US citizens who apply for tourist visa will be issued five-year multiple entry visa on the basis of the visa reciprocity decision, which was taken for benefitting both the Nepali and the USA citizens, said director and spokesperson at the DoI Bishnu Hari Upadhyaya.
The Americans with tourist visa can now spend a maximum 180 days a year in Nepal as per the new rule.
Before the implementation of visa reciprocity system between the two nations, the Americans who stayed more than 90 days in Nepal as tourists had to pay USD 2 for each extra day.
The American government was lobbying for implementation of reciprocal visa model between the two countries.
Following the implementation of the new rule of visa reciprocity, both the Nepali and the US citizens will have to pay USD 160 for five-year tourist visa or multiple entries. It has waived-off USD 200 as additional fee for the Nepalis applying for the student visa for the US.
