It might not be a mere coincidence that a week after CPN chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal warned of the revival of another Maoist Group, several bombs went off in the offices and towers of Ncell, a telecom of private sector, across the country killing a pedestrian in Lalitpur.
The bombs, as claimed by Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa, were planted by the Communist Party of Nepal led by Netra Bikram Chand 'Biplav'. Biplav himself had owned up the explosions.
However, the main question was how Dahal could predict the explosions a week before. Was he informed about it or had he instigated his former combatants to resort to explosion?
Interestingly, bombs targeted the Ncell Office and towers, which were the property of Ajay Sumargee, a close aide of Dahal.
After exploding bombs, the Biplav-led party had openly announced to blow all the projects funded or developed by the Indians. They had already begun their acts by exploding a bomb at the Arun III in Sankhuwasabha.
News reports had it that they would try their best to halt the works on Pancheswore and other hydro projects being developed by the Indians,
The acts of the Biplav-led party look similar to the Maoists in the late 1990s. And they look adamant to continue their violent activities. They have already intensified their extortion drive and the Home Ministry has failed to control their activities.
Reports have also been that Prime Minister Oli and CPN chair Dahal are now planning to appoint Janadradan Sharma to the post of Home Minister by transferring sitting Home Minister Ram Bahadur to another ministry as he failed to control the activities of the Biplav-led party. Sharma was believed to have performed excellently when he led two ministries, including Home in the past.
The Ncell central office stationed at Nakkhu of Lalitpur district on Friday night was partially damaged by the bomb that went off at the gate of the office and over 20 BTS towers were set on fire on the same night in various districts. However, no tower of Province 1 was blown hinting their absence in the province.
Home Minister Thapa while speaking at a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Friday admitted that Biplav's party was running and practicing parallel government through the acts of violence and terror.
If the government does not control the violent activities in time, the present series of explosions will not take time to culminate in a bloody civil war in near future.
Moreover, they intensified their violent activities when the government is preparing to host an investment summit next month to tell the donors that Nepal is a safe investment destination.
When the outlaw group has targeted the Ncell towers killing and injuring innocent pedestrians, the investors may not easily believe the government claims. Hence, maintaining law and order has been the biggest challenge to the present two-thirds majority government not only to attract foreign investment but also to ensure security to the people.
