By Pushpa Raj Pradhan lately in Beijing Ma Xingying, executive vice president, China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC), said that Nepal should not doubt on timely completion of the Budhigandaki Hydropower Project. She explained that CGGC, established in 1970, holds the pride of construction of the Three Gorges Hydropower Project producing 22500 MW hydropower from the Yangtze River in Sandouping, Yiling, Hubei. After signing on the MoU with the Nepal government, CGGC is studying on the detailed project report, she said and informed that there is no problem of investment funds in construction of the Budhigandaki project. In response to the questions put forth by the visiting Nepali journalists at an interaction programme held at CGGC headquarters in Beijing, Mrs Ma said that construction of the Chamiliya Hydropower Project and Upper Trishuli 3 A Hydropower Project were delayed because of the earthquake in Nepal. The construction works were delayed in the two projects, however, 99 percent works of the Chamaliya Project has already been completed and delay in construction of the Upper Trishuli Project was due to the design change followed by the devastating earthquake. Nevertheless, she expressed satisfaction that works are in progress at present. She said that CGGC is the largest and experienced group in China and also working in different countries, including Nepal. Li Pingli, vice chairman, CGGC International, said that Nepal is important country for CGGC. It is a matter of pride for CGGC to construct the 1000 MW Budhigandaki hydropower project. CGGC is the core member of the China Energy Group. Besides from producing energy, the Group is also involved in manufacturing heavy equipments, construction of high-rise buildings, installation of solar and wind-turbine plants, among others. CGGC has been granted 30 qualifications Grade I for contracting construction of various kinds of projects including Special-grade qualification for contracting construction of water resources and hydropower projects on turnkey basis, Grade-1 qualification for contracting construction of water resources and hydropower projects on turnkey basis and other qualifications Grade I for construction of different kinds of professional projects. CGGC enjoys the rights to carry out foreign trade business independently, international cooperation and labor service cooperation as well as construction of overseas projects. CGGC has been granted integrated credit line of Ten Billion Chinese Yuan (CNY) by the commercial bank. It has set up scientific research and work station for post-doctors as well as the first national technical center of hydroelectric construction industry in China, and developed more than 700 important scientific and technological achievements including those granted Special-class Prize of National Science and Technology advancement by the State. CGGC has 28,000 sets of main construction machinery and equipment of all kinds, with its net assets amounting to about 4 Billion Chinese Yuan (CNY). CGGC’s annual overall capacity of construction and production is described as follows: earth-rock excavation & fill of 100 million m3, concrete placement of 5.5 million m3 and hydro-generating installation of 2800 MW. In addition, CGGC is the first enterprise that has been granted both national and international certificates of quality system standard GB/T19002 and ISO9000 in the construction trade in China. Some technologies have won the domestically leading position in the same hydropower construction field. Moreover, some technologies, including technology of large river diversion and closure, concrete construction with high intensity, installation of hydro-generating units for large hydropower station, manufacturing and installation of large-sized metal work as well as circumferentially-preprocessed concrete placed in the tunnel subject to high-speed flow have ranked among the international advanced technologies in the same field. CGGC has exclusively completed or participated in construction of more than one hundred of hydropower stations, as well as the famous Three Gorges Project in Hubei Province. CGGC has also contracted and completed construction of more than 2000 projects in other building fields, scattered over more than 20 provinces and cities in China. More than 100 national records in hydroelectric construction were set up during the execution of Gezhouba Multipurpose Project exclusively completed by CGGC. Geheyan Hydropower Station on Qingjiang River in Hubei province the whole construction of which was contracted and completed by CGGC is the sole large-sized project that has been granted the “Luban Prize”.
