By Our Reporter Although the alliance forged during the first-phase local polls resulted to be counterproductive for almost all parties with Nepali Congress suffering the most, the political parties have given continuity to forge odd alliance also in the second phase polls scheduled for June 28. The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) was totally eliminated in the May 31 local polls due to its alliance with the CPN-UML while the CPN-Maoist Centre failed to win election in Kathmandu despite forging alliance with the NC. Even NC failed to gain advantage from its alliance with the Maoist Centre. Instead, the alliance between the NC and MC in Chitwan resulted damaging to the NC across the province 3. While NC was eliminated from Chitwan and lost the mayoral post in Kathmandu Metropolitan City, MC became nil in Kathmandu.  In entire valley, MC won only a Village Council chief in Lalitpur. But these parties did not learn a lesson from the unnatural alliance and had established odd alliance especially in Biratnagar Metropolitan City. While NC has not forged any alliance in Biratnagar, the CPN-UML had forged an alliance with the Bijay Gachchhadar’s Nepal Loktantrik Forum while the Maoist Centre had forged alliance with Upendra Yadav’s Federal Socialist Forum. The parties have given up political ideologies and principles while forging electoral alliance in Biratnagar. While Deputy Prime Minister Gachchhadar has forged alliance with  the main opposition party, the Nepali Congress and Maoist Centre failed to forge alliance in Biratnagar as NC opted to contest the poll alone. Now NC’s Mayoral candidate Bhim Parajuli  is likely to face tough challenge from the alliance between UML and NLP and MC and FSF, mostly from Umesh Yadav of MC-FSC alliance.
