Prime Minster Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Sunday laid foundation stone for the construction of of the Kathmandu-Nijgadh Fast-Track – the strategically important national pride project that connects the Terai region with capital city of Kathmandu.
Dahal flew to Bara to lay the foundation stone of the 76.2 km expressway that passes through Lalaitpur and Makwanpur districts.
Nepal Army is assigned to build the fast-track at the cost of Rs 110 billion. . As part of the preparation, a High-powered Direction Committee has been formed under the leadership of NA Chief of Staff General Purna Chandra Thapa for the construction of the model project.
The project is expected to connect the feelings of the Tarai, mountain and hill regions and contribute to the economic advancement of the country.
The NA has pledged to complete the construction of the national pride project on time. The fast-track which starts from Khokana of Lalitpur would connect Bara through Kathmandu and Makawanpur.
The Nepal Army is going to construct the 76.2 km road, the shortest one to link Kathmandu with the Tarai. Earlier, the KP Oli-led government had decided to build the road by Nepal government. But when the Oli-led government collapsed in August last year, there were rumours that the new government was preparing to hand over the task of constructing the fast track to the Indian companies.
But PM Dahal proved the allegations wrong by laying the foundation stone of the expressway and granting the NA the responsibility of building the project.
