The government extended the tenure of the Chief of General Staff (CGS) Gen Baldevraj Mahat and Chief of Staff (CoS) Gen Purnachandra Thapa. Mahat was going to be retired on 23 July this year if the government had not extended his tenure. Mahat’s tenure has been extended for three months and thus he is going to be retired on 2 November this year. Accordingly, Thapa was going to be retired on 1 October this year. After the government decision to extend his tenure, he is going to be the second man after the retirement of CoSMahat and on 9 September 2018 he is going to succeed CoAS Gen RajendraChhetri as Chhetri is going to retire on 9 September next year.
