image0071A host of Nepali films—features, short films and documentaries—are slated to be screened at the on-going Fribourg International Film Festival, in Switzerland. Among the films going to be screened are Kumari, Sindoor, Basudev, Kagbeni, Numafung, Mukundo, Soongava, Loot, Kalo Pothi, Who Will Be A Gurkha and Seto Surya, among others. The fest will also feature short films such as Dadyaa, Jhalo, Kaafal Pakyo, Malami, Chhora, and Voiceless. Similarly, international documentaries shot in Nepal, such as Evererst, Himalaya, Everest-Summit of the Gods, and Himalayan Gold Rush, are also lined up for screening. The films will be screened under the newly-announced category of the fest, New Territory. Meanwhile, White Sun and Jhalo will also compete under the International Feature Films and Short Films, respectively. “The fact that Nepali films has been earning remarkable appreciation and showing notable potential even in the international front in recent years has been accredited as the main reason why Nepali films have been prioritised for screenings at a festival of this echelon,” reads a press statement issued by Raj Kumar Rai, chairperson of Film Development Board of Nepal, which assisted the screenings. “Besides widening the horizon of Nepali films, such festivals also promote tourism and establish Nepal as a wonderful filming destination.” The fest, which started on March 31, will run till April 9.
