By Our Reporter Dust emanating from the pipe laying works of the Melamchi Drinking Water Project has alreday posed a health risk to the people. The level of air pollution has alreday crossed the limit and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City as well as other stakeholders are doing nothing to improve the quality of air. Instead of taking any immediate action to address the probelm of dust, the Kathmandu Metropolitian City has announced to buy 10 broomers in three months to sweep the dusty roads. By the time the broomers arrive in Kathmandu, it will be mid-monsoon and the dust of toady will disapper from air and roads. When Executive Officer at the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ishwor Raj Poudel recently unveiled his office’s plan to buy 10 broomers to clean the dusty roads of the city  within three months, many people realised how the authorities here delay in taking any decision. Poudel should have bought the broomers two months ago, but now he has announced to buy them in three months. But considering the lackluster working styles of our authorities, the broomers may not arrive even in the next six months. “After buying the broomers, I have proposed scheduled cleaning of Kathmandu’s roads. The roads should be cleaned in the morning and evening. Staffers will be deployed in three shifts each day from 7:00am to 10:00pm,” Poudel said. According to the action plan, Kathmandu Metropolitan City will also begin tree plantation along various river banks within six months. The KMC has decided to appoint Byakul Maila, writer of national anthem, as development ambassador to speed up development and awareness activities. Now the KMC had three broomers, and two of them, which were presented by China have become dysfunctional. One broomer is working condition, but the KMC hardly uses it.
