There was a heated argument between two ministers regarding giving public holiday on Prithvi Jayanti. The argument was between Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi and Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation minister Dil Nath Giri.
During a meeting in Singhadurbar regarding issue of public holidays in the year 2074, Minister Giri has raised a question when Nidhi removed public holiday for Prithvi Jayanti on 27th Poush.
Giri told if a public holiday was not given on Prithvi jayanti he would withdraw his support for giving holidays to other occasion in the list as well. Giri wanted to know why a decision made by the cabinet had not been implemented and Nidhi was adamant of the fact that there had been no cabinet decision regarding this fact. Therefore there was a heated discussion.
While talking to Nidhi regarding this matter he stated that he could not do anything as a public holiday for Prithvi Jayanti. However he was of the opinion that there should be a holiday in the honor of national unifier Prithvi Narayan Shah.
Although the media had published news of a public holiday on Poush 27 a reliable source stated that there had been a discussion in the cabinet regarding a public holiday on Prithvi Jayanti but a decision had not been made and this was mainly because the PM Pushpakamal Dahal was not in favor of a holiday on that day and so the home ministry had submitted the list without a public holiday on Prithvi Jayanti. Nevertheless a public holiday on Christmas Day has been added in the list submitted by the Home Minister.
