By Our Reporter Dr.-Prakash-Chandra-Lohani-1Senior leader of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Dr Prakash Chandra Lohani quit the party on Sunday, 20 days after the unification of the Pashupati Shumsher Rana-led RastriyaPrajatantraParty and Kamal Thapa-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal. Dr Lohani, who served as national president of the party and finance minister, announced in a press meet that he decided to quit the party accusing party president Kamal Thapa of breaching previous understandings and using the party as a tool to further Thapa’s political interest. “I felt sad to quit the party for which I worked for 25 years. But I realised that I cannot remain in the party any longer confronting such opportunism” Lohani said in the press meet. Thapa, who was not happy with Thapa right from the latter’s election to the top post in the party, was furious with Thapa when the party adopted cow as the election symbol of the party against the earlier agreement to accept plough as the election symbol. DrLohani had also prevented Thapa from becoming party president unanimously, and he had PradeepBikramRana contest the election with Thapa during the unity convention of the party. Lohani also accused party chairman Thapa of using the party to further his personal interest to get to power and exercising monopoly in decision-making. Lohani said in the press meet thatThapa used the Madhes problem as a trump card to join the government, breaching party decision and party line. “I have strong objection to the tendency and tradition of the party leadership to cash in on the crisis to get into government,” Lohani read his statement in the press meet. Expressing dissatisfaction over the nomination of party chair Thapa and other leaders to the government, ambassadorial nominations for various countries and other decisions taken by the party leadership, Lohani said that he decided to quit the party. Lohani though did not say anything about his future plan, he is likely to announce another party soon.
