By Our Reporter A community road constructed in Sakhejung, Ilam District with the support of the Japan government has been inaugurated amidst a function held in Sakhejung, Ilam on 21 February. The function was attended by Shinya Machida, Deputy Chief of Mission of Japan to Nepal, as well as Jhala Nath Khanal, former Prime Minister, and Data Ram Khanal, Chairperson of Clean and Green Nepal. The Japan government had extended financial assistance totaling Rs. 9,885,000, to the Clean and Green Nepal, a local NGO based in Kathmandu. The support was extended under the grant assistance for the Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme of Japan 2014. A grant contract for the project was signed and exchanged between Japanese ambassador Masashi Ogawa, and  Data Ram Khanal, chairperson of the Clean and Green Nepal, on 23 March, 2015. The project was aimed at construction of a 2 km community road from Banchare Golai on the Mechi Highway, to Pandit Gaun in Sakhejung VDC, Ward No. 4. The Japanese support was for improving the condition of the road by setting up hume pipes under the road for water drainage, constructing retaining walls and widening the road. Approximately ten thousand local residents of Sakhejung, Shantidanda and near villages will benefit in both their daily travels and also in cases when urgent transportation is required. Similarly, a girls’ hostel has been constructed in Navarajpur, Siraha with the support of the Japan government. The hostel was inaugurated amidst a function held in Navarajpur on 22 Fabruary. Shinya Machida, Deputy Chief of Mission of Japan to Nepal, as well as Chitra Lekha Yadav, former education minister and Amira Dali, General Secretary of Love Green Nepal, were present at the ceremony. The Japan government has supported Rs 9,902,039.oo to the Love Green Nepal, a local NGO based in Kathmandu. The support was extended under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme of Japan 2014. A grant contract for the project was signed and exchanged between Japanese ambassador Masashi Ogawa and Ms. Amira Dali, then President of Love Green Nepal, on 20 February, 2015. The support was provided to construct a girls’ hostel in Navarajpur, Siraha District, an area where the educational situation for females is challenging. It has been aimed at improving access to higher education for female students in the area. Japan has expected enhancement of cordial friendship between the people of Japan and Nepal through these projects.
