By Our Reporter Late Nepali Congress leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai was remembered last  Friday by observing his 93rd birth anniversary at Bhattarai Ashram, Bandegaun, where he had spent last years of his life. untitled-1Several leaders of the Nepali Congress, including CPN-UML chair K P Oli reached Bandegaun to recall  saint-like leader Bhattarai, who never compromised with democracy, nationality and political ideology of Nepali Congress. A veteran democratic leader of Nepal, who managed to end the political transition of 2047 by promulgating the constitution in a short span of time, never resorted to unlawful way to grab or retain in power.  He even chose to remain in the jail instead of signing a paper deceiving his own conscience. When most leaders of the NC  were released y signing a paper after the 1959 political take over Bhattarai did not agree to sign the paper. He also did not go to exile in India like other leaders of the NC. An staunch supporter of constitutional monarchy, Bhattarai was against the 2006 political movement that uprooted monarchy.  He never bowed down before the foreign forces. Instead, he tried his best to remind the Indian leaders that Nepal is an independent and sovereign state. He was rich in diplomatic skills. Once when he was asked by Indian journalists why Nepal government did not hire Madhesis in the Nepal Army, Bhattarai had told them to ask the question to VP Singh, the Indian PM, who was also present in the press meet. No Nepali ledear dared to be such bold in front of the Indian leader. The function was addressed by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML chair Oli. The CPN (UML) Chairman talked about the incomparable contribution of Bhattarai for big changes in the country. Likewise, NC leader Prakashman Singh, Culture expert, Dr. Jagman Gurung, President of Krishna Prasad Bhattarai Foundation, PL Singh, among others also shed lights on late Bhattarai's contribution.
