The 3rd meeting of Eminent Persons Group on Nepal-India Relations (EPG-NIR), which was supposed to be held in the scenic Pokhara city on December 22-23, was put off, according to a news reports published by The Himalayan Times.
An EPG member from the Nepali side, Rajan Bhattarai, informed about the cancellation of the meeting. He said the meeting was called off after the Indian side of EPG conveyed its inability to take part on the set date due to some of their members’ conflict of schedules.
With the cancellation of the Pokhara meet, the Nepali side of EPG is working to fix another date for the meeting.
The agenda of the 3rd EPG meeting included reviewing the treaty of 1950, bilateral trdae regime and cooperation on water resources.
The first meeting was held in Kathmandu in July and the second meeting in New Delhi in October.
The EPG-Nir is a joint mechanism of Nepal and India for making necessary suggestions to update all existing bilateral treaties and agreements.
Former Ministers Bhesh Bahadur Thapa and Nilamber Acharya, lawmaker Rajan Bhattarai and former chief of the CIAA Surya Nath Upadhyay represent Nepal in EPG while Bhagat Singh Kosiyari, Jayant Prasad, BC Uprety and Mahendra P Lama represent the Indian side.
