Liu Qibao, politburo member and secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and chief of the CPC Publicity Department, concluded his visit to Nepal. Liu is considered as one among the senior leaders in China, who is known as Propaganda (Communications) Minister of China. During his visit, a book entitled “Xi Jinping: The Governance of China was released by President Bidya Bhandari at the President’s Office in Maharajgunj on Sunday, 18 December.
On 19 December, Liu called on Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal and in the afternoon, he attended the China Festival.
Coinciding the visit, China has opened China Book Center, first of its kind in South Asia.
Prime Minister Dahal during the meeting with Liu, said that he is “desperately” (according to reports in dailies) waiting to host Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Some observers wonder how Indian PM Modi would react to PM Dahal’s “desperation” to host the Chinese leader in Nepal.
However, Liu didn’t confirm whether President Xi is visiting Nepal soon! After formation of the present government, Liu is the highest leader visiting Nepal. Observers believe that China has given a clear gesture to the world that China has given high priority to the relations with the neighbouring countries. Also, Liu’s visit was set to inspect Nepal’s homework regarding the upcoming visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping, observers believe.
