Indian monopoly in internet bandwidth on Nepal has finally ended with the signing of MoU between Nepal Telecom (NT), the state-owned telecommunication service provider and China Telecom Global Limited (CTG). It is the first time that the country signed an agreement with third country in order to deliver IP service in Nepal. Lochan Lal Amatya, chief technical officer of NT and Ow Yang, executive vice president of CTG, signed the MoU in a program organised in Hong Kong on behalf of their respective organizations. In the program, Amatya said that NT would benefit through the terrestrial cable route. He also expressed hope that the CTG would provide a reliable service and that Nepal could be established as a transit hub for it. According to a statement issued by NT, the terrestrial cable route will be connected to Nepal via Jillong gateway along Nepal-China border. Similarly, Yan said that CTG has been expanding its service into the Himalayan area and that China-Nepal route could provide service to Nepal and transit service from India.
