By Kushal Thapa image0016Nepal added another trophy to its name defeating Macau 1-0 in an exciting final of AFC Solidarity Cup football tournament to become the champion of Solidarity Cup 2016 held in Sarawak Stadium in Kuching of Malaysia on Tuesday, making history in Nepal’s football. With only a goal scored by Sujal Shrestha in the first half of the final match, Nepal lifted the trophy. It is Nepal’s third international title this year. Nepal had won the Bangabandhu Gold Cup in Bangladesh and the SAFF Games men’s football gold medal in India earlier this year. image004Nepal played very well and were dominant throughout the match in both half. Nepal was able to create history by winning the 62 year old Championship for the first time. It’s definitely good to see Nepal win trophies. The Nepal’s football team has definitely worked hard, dedication and effort of all involved in this field really paid off. It looks like Nepal is doing really well in football in our region in recent times as it can be seen by the increase in trophies. If the government had given more emphasis to football and other sports then there would have been more silverware by now in the field of sports. This trophy bagged by Nepal shows that it can be done and all the effort has not been in vain. We hope to see even better results in the near future and a step out of only domestic trophies.
