By Our Reporter image0014New Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong arrived in Kathmandu on Monday to assume her office.Yu was received by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Embassy at the Tribhuvan International Airport. Yu is the 20th Chinese ambassador to Nepal since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1955. Successor to envoy Wu Chuntai who took office as Chinese ambassador to Nepal in March, 2013, Yu has expertise over Asian affairs and economic diplomacy. Earlier, Yu was a Chinese consul general for Indonesia for two years after having served in the missions based in Norway, South Africa. Yu started diplomatic career as an attaché in 1988, and she spent three years (2011-2014) at the Chinese Foreign Ministry as the deputy director general of the Department of Consular Affairs. From 2006 to 2011, she served as the consular and division chief at the Department of Asian Affairs in Beijing With expertise over economic diplomacy, Yu has arrived in Nepal at a time when the two countries are increasing economic partnership and bilateral projects.
