The transport entrepreneurs opened the booking of bus tickets for the aspiring home-goers in the forthcoming Dashain festival from Friday. But most of the people failed to get the tickets as the transport workers hid the tickets in the hope of selling them in the black markets.
The people had to stand for six to 10 hours at the Gongabu Bus Park to get a ticket of buses.
However, the microbuses operating services on the B.P. Highway did not sell their tickets from Friday.
The microbuses that have been providing services in the cities of eastern Nepal have been cheating the passengers by taking more fare than the fare fixed by the Transport Management Department.
“They asked me Rs 1400 for this ticket but they have not mentioned the fare amount on it,” a lady who was planning to go to Kakarbhitta showed this reporter a ticket which had not mention the fare amount.
A few weeks ago, the Transport Management Department had fixed the fare of Kathmandu-Kakarbhitta route at Rs 944. But the operators of the micro buses have openly challenged the decision.
The micro buses have denied selling tickets for October for no apparent reason
The situation of air services is no different. Almost all private airlines have sold all the tickets while the Nepal airlines have sold the tickets of up to October 11. However, as NA often cancels its flights, most people hesitate to buy NA tickets though the fare of NA flights is lower than the private airlines.
“As we have only one plane to operate service in major cities, a minor problem results in cancellation of our flights,” said a staff at the counter NA on the condition of anonymity.
