Nepali short film Jha Lo (Year of the Bird), directed by Buddhist Monk Shenang Gyamjo Tamang (Khenpo Shelnang), has been selected in competitive short film section for the 21st Busan International Film Festival in South Korea. The 15-minute-film is among the 10 films selected for the Asian Short Film Competition under Wide Angle section of the festival. Produced by Shooney Films Pvt. Ltd, Jha Lo is the story of two Buddhist monks, of different age, one teacher and another student, but with the same kind conflict - guilt and anger. These two- troubled souls left alone at the retreat center and their encounter in each other's existence alter both their lives forever. “I had made JHA LO as a film lover. I had no expectations but they liked my film which has motivated me to go for my next film,” the director expressed about the good news adding, “I am feeling good about it.” Though a monk, he now feels “responsible for the film industry”. Starring Jigme Palden and Thiley Gurung, the film is in the Tibetan language. It has been shot in Mustang. The story has been written by Tamang, Abinash Bikram Shah, Kiran Shrestha, Ashim Khanal and Sanjaya Chaulagain and is produced by Min Bahadur Bham and Ram Krishna Pokharel.
