By Our Reporter Although Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has reiterated to construct the Kathmandu-Nijgadh fast track by the government, Deputy Prime Minister Bimalendra Nidhi has been lobbying to award the construction contact of the road to the Indian firms again. The previous government led by K P Oli had decided to build the fast-track by Nepal government itself. Prime Minister Dahal had strongly supported the plan as a coalition partner of the Oli-led government. The people fed-up with the growing Indian interference in Nepal’s internal matter were also pleased by the government decision regarding the fast-track. But despite strong opposition from the public, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi reiterated his stand of awarding the contract to construct Kathmandu-Tarai-Fast-Track road to an Indian firm. Nidhi’s remark contradicts view of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who recently said he was against awarding the project to a foreign company. During a meeting of the International Relations and Labour Committee of the Parliament today, Nidhi claimed that awarding the contract to an Indian company was in the interest of Nepal and criticised CPN-UML for opposing the same, reported the Himalayan Times. As a Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport under the Sushil Koirala-led government, Nidhi had signed an initial deal of constructing the project with the Indian firm, Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Transportation Networks, under build, own, operate and transfer modality. Later, the Supreme Court had ordered not to award the project to the Indian firm and the Oli-led government had made the decision to build the fast-track from the government itself. The stance of Nidhi to award the contract to an Indian firm has somewhat proved an allegation labled against Nidhi that he has been an Indian agent in the present government of MC-NC parties.
