Mathema’s memoir launched

Late Dayaram Bhakta Mathema’s memoir ‘Anubhav ra Anubhuti — Jeevan Yatra Ka Etihasik Mode’ was launched in an event at Hotel Shanker, Lazimpat. The book is published by Daya Foundation. The program was chaired by senior culture expert Satya Mohan Joshi, the first governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Himalaya Shumsher J.B. Rana, renowned historian Dr Safalya Amatya, and former vice chancellor of Tribhuvan University Kedar Bhakta Mathema. Mathema was the private secretary to king Tribhuvan and later to king Mahendra. And this book is an account of his life — from early childhood to his journey to the palace and his retirement from the palace. It narrates his experiences of working with Rana prime ministers, and the political situation of the country during the Rana regime. While unfolding mysteries of the time then, the memoir also talks about the history during the reign of kings Tribhuvan and Mahendra. The book has been divided into six sections — Jeevanka Prarambhik Din, Narayanhiti Rajdurbar Sewa, Prajatantrik Aandolanma Raja Tribhuvan ka Saath, Prajatantrik Aabhyaska Prarambhik Din, Rajdurbar Sewapachika Pachhilaa Din, and Sadharan Jeevanka Upalabdhi. The memoir narrating personal life of Mathema also highlights the relationship between Nepal and India along with the establishment of the Indian Embassy in the country. Along with narration of the events and historical incidents, the book is enriched with photographs. Several family photos of Mathema, his photographs with king Tribhuvan, photos of him travelling to different countries, images of different Rana prime ministers like Chandra Shumsher, Dev Shumsher with his family members, et cetera have also been included in the book. Executive member of Daya Foundation, Neeva Mathema Pradhan, said, “We struggled a lot to publish this book. The only aim that we had in releasing this book was to let Nepali people know about the author’s experiences and also make today’s youth understand about our national history.” Himalaya Shumsher J.B. Rana commented that the book brings back the memories of 1951 revolution and that it is a must read to know about Nepal’s history.
