It’s closed session had to be put off by one more day due to the disputes over the representatives to the convention the very next the convention began. The NSU, which has been unable to hold its general convention for nine years since the unification between NC and Nepali Congress Democratic in 2007, has begun the general convention without selecting representatives from 11 districts. A few student leaders staged hunger strike to select the representatives in a fair way. However, the NC could not resolve the problem and this finally led to the postponement of the closed session in the convention. Again the representatives have been divided into four panels having their own candidate for the post of chairman. NC president Sher Bahadur Deuba, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, leaders Khum Bahadur Khadka and Krishna Sitaula had their separate candidates for the top posts in the organsiations. When these leaders tried to send their own ‘men’ from districts, number of representatives swelled up almost by 1000 to 3400, prompting the disputes. The panel which manages to have his ‘man’ to lead the NSU is believed to be strong within the NC and the leaders applied every measure to dominate the student wings. This is why the NC postponed the nomination of ministers representing the party until the NSU convention concludes.
