shasanka-koiralaBy Our Reporter Nepali Congress General Secretary Dr Shashank Koirala has recovered from serious illness. Koirala, who reached  the Chabahil-based Om Hospital last Tuesday (July 5) evening after feeling unwell, was found fainted Wednesday morning in the hospital. After a check-up on Tuesday night, Dr. Koirala stayed in hospital. But his aides found him fainted in the morning. According to news reports, Dr Koirala was found fainted in the hospital bed after vomiting.  He remained unconscious for almost 16 hours. A team of 15 doctors involved in his treatment keeping him in ventilator managed to save his life. His health condition remained so critical that the even the doctors could not tell what would happened the next. Attempts made to take him to New Delhi for further treatment failed as the country had no suitable ambulance to take him to the Tribhuvan International Airport from Om Hospital so that an air ambulance would lift him to India. With no option left, the doctors worked hard to save Koirala and they succeeded. Finally, he opened his eyes on Wednesday night giving a sigh of relief not only to the doctors involved in his treatment but the NC activists and other well wishers. He had a very low blood pressure 60-40 mm Hg and the oxygen level in his blood dropped to 60. He was also suffering from pneumonia. The hospital issued a number of statements on Dr Koiarla’s health , which remained stable for hours, to inform public about his condition. Dr Koirala, the youngest son of late B P Koirala, was elected general secretary of the Nepali Congress in the party’s national convention held in March this year. Prime Minister K. P. Oli, NC chair Sher Bahadur Deuba, senior leader Ramchandra Poudel and other leaders had reached hospital to observe ailing Koirala. A team of Indian doctors, who arrived in Kathmandu in the initiative of the Kathmandu-based Indian Embassy, also checked his health.
