Five rupees is a small amount but when it is added, it becomes a huge amount. The government has been able to collect 240 million rupees within two weeks from one customs office against the infrastructure development tax on petro-products with the aim of constructing Budhigandaki Dam Hydropower Project. It seems, five rupees tax per litre of petro-products is enough to manage fund in construction of the project. We don’t need foreign investment to construct such a big project.
If the government would have converted the tax into shares for the consumers of the petro-products, it would be further encouraging for the general public to contribute in other infrastructural projects!
