Health services halted to oppose arrests of fake doctors By Our Reporter nakkali-doctor-1How weak has the government of Nepal been in enforcing the laws was revealed once again following the arrest of 36 fake doctors last week. When the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police made all the arrested fake doctors public by organising a press meet, Nepal Medical Association opposed the arrests as if the organization was working in favour of the fake doctors. The police had arrested the doctors having fake I Sc and SLC certificates from different hospitals and health institutes of different districts. Of them, 13 were arrested from Kathmandu and nine from Morang districts. Many of these working doctors were found to have bought their certificates from India while a few of them had someone else to take the examination of the medical council. Presence of a large number of fake doctors in the health sector has put the entire health service at a high risk. Though the CIB managed to arrest a few of them, the NMA has surprisingly opposed the praiseworthy move with warning of taking to the streets. A group of doctors even took out a rally against the arrest in Birgunj. The odd act of NMC suggests that professionals and entrepreneurs in Nepal have developed a habit of defying any law in an organizational level. Two weeks ago the transportation entrepreneurs orgainsed a ‘chakka jam’ across the nation to oppose the new traffic laws introduced with an intention of reducing the road accidents. Surprisingly, the organisational level strike badly affected normal life. The story does not end here. The gas entrepreneurs also threatened the government to launch a protest when the latter suspended the production and sale of the HP gas that went off in Patan killing two workers on May 28. Earlier, the petrol pumps stopped supplying petrol when the government started monitoring the pumps to find whether the pumps were selling adulterated or low quantity fuel. Even the gold entrepreneurs a few years ago shut down their business to oppose the raids on their shops.
