Four months after becoming the president of Nepali Congress, Sher Bahadur Deuba has still been unable to appoint vice president and general secretary and other office bearers in the central committee.
Deuba was elected to the party president by defeating Ram Chandra Poudel with a big margin in the 13th general convention of the party held in March this year. With Deuba the convention elected Dr Shsank Koirala general secretary and Sita Devi Yadav treasurer along with 25 central committee members.
The party president has to appoint vice president, a general secretary and co-secretary including a few central members but Deuba has not appointed them yet though he appointed Ram Chnadra Poudel and others who lost the elections in the general convention.
The delay is said to be due to the presence of several leaders vying for the limited posts. As party president, Deuba has also a responsibility to maintain balance in the two factions of the party. Within his camp, there are more than one leaders willing to become vice president and general secretary. Moreover, Deuba has to give one of the key post to Khum Bahadur Khadka while there are Bimalendra Nidhi, Purna Bahadur Khadka and Gopal Man Shrestha to adjust in the committee. There is also senior leader K. B. Gurung to manage as Gurung was key figure after Khadka to ensure Deuba’s victory in the general convention.
Meanwhile, Deuba has claimed that the responsibility to take the lead of implementing constitution has come upon the shoulder of his party as the largest party.
Inaugurating the fourth anniversary of Martyr Radhe Shyam Jonchhe Memorial Academy, Deuba, who is also the Parliamentary Party leader of NC said, “Implementing the constitution is not an easy task, local body elections should take place for that.”
